Medical Uses

Elunate (fruquintinib) is a kinase inhibitor used for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) who have been previously treated with fluoropyrimidine‑, oxaliplatin‑, and irinotecan‑based chemotherapy, an anti‑VEGF therapy, and, if RAS wild-type and medically appropriate, an anti-EGFR therapy.

Recommended Dosage:
The recommended dose of Fruquintinib is 5 mg once daily, for 3 consecutive weeks, followed by 1 week of a drug-free period (Every 4 weeks as one treatment cycle). The dosage may be taken orally with food or on an empty stomach, and it must be swallowed whole. It is recommended to take all the doses at the same time each day.
In case the patient vomits after administering the medicine, there is no requirement to make up for the dose; in case a dose is missed, instruct the patient not to make up for the dose the next day, but to take the very next dose at its next scheduled time.

  • Treatment with Fruquintinib 1 mg/5 mg capsules may be responsible for increasing blood pressure. Monitor blood pressure frequently during treatment. Start or adjust anti-hypertensive therapy in case required.   • Serious gastrointestinal perforations may occur with this medicine. Symptoms may include nausea, severe abdominal pain, or fever. Stop treatment quickly and seek emergency care if perforation is suspected. Patients with known bowel conditions must be monitored closely during treatment.
  • Liver complications can develop while using this medicine. Monitor liver enzymes and bilirubin before and while on treatment. Let your doctor know about your liver disease history. Stop or adjust the dose if significant liver injury occurs. Symptoms include dark urine, fatigue, and yellowing of skin or eyes.
  • Therapy with Fruquintinib 1 mg/5 mg capsules may cause protein to leak into the urine. Routine urine tests are required. Serious cases may require dose reduction or treatment interruption. Report any signs and symptoms like swelling in the legs or foamy urine, as they could be signs of worsening kidney function.
  • This condition may cause swelling, redness, pain, or blisters on the hands and feet. It affects quality of life and may require dose modification. Use moisturizers, wear loose shoes, and avoid hot water. Let your doctor know early if symptoms worsen or become very painful.
  • This medicine may delay wound healing. Do not start treatment before or soon after major surgery. Wait at least 14 days after surgical procedures unless approved by your clinician. Let your physician know about any planned surgeries or non-healing wounds before continuing treatment.
  • Events like a stroke or a heart attack may happen. Patients with known cardiovascular disease are at greater risk. Monitor for shortness of breath, chest pain, or limb weakness. Get immediate care in case such symptoms occur. Caution must be used in elderly or high-risk patients.
