Dayvigo (Lemborexant)

  • Medicine Name: Dayvigo
  • Active Ingredient (API): Lemborexant
  • Dosage Form & Strength: Film-coated tablets: 5 mg and 10 mg
  • Manufactured By: Eisai

Medical Uses

Dayvigo (lemborexant) is a prescription medicine for adults with insomnia who have difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep. The recommended dose is 5 mg taken once per night immediately before going to bed, with at least 7 hours remaining before planned waking; it may be increased to 10 mg.

Lemborexant blocks orexin receptors (OX1R and OX2R) in the brain. Orexin is a neuropeptide that promotes wakefulness, so blocking it helps the brain move into and stay in sleep.

Warnings & Precautions

  • It can cause next-morning drowsiness and impaired driving ability, especially at 10 mg; patients should be cautious the next day.
  • Contraindicated in narcolepsy. Sleep paralysis, hallucinations and cataplexy-like symptoms can occur.
  • Complex sleep behaviours, worsening depression or suicidal thinking should be reported promptly.
  • Avoid alcohol and strong CYP3A inhibitors or inducers. Lemborexant is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US.
