Medical Uses
Evoxac (cevimeline hydrochloride) is used to treat the symptoms of dry mouth (xerostomia) in patients with Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune condition that damages the salivary and tear glands. The usual dose is 30 mg three times a day.
Cevimeline stimulates muscarinic M1 and M3 receptors on the salivary glands, increasing the production of saliva and relieving the discomfort, difficulty swallowing and dental problems caused by a persistently dry mouth.
