Follow the Foundayo starting dosage and escalation described below to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal (GI) adverse reactions.

  • The starting recommended dosage is 0.8 mg orally once daily. After at least 30 days on the 0.8 mg dosage, increase the dosage to 2.5 mg once daily.
  • After at least 30 days on the 2.5 mg dosage, increase the dosage to 5.5 mg once daily.
  • The dosage may be increased to the next dosage level (9 mg, 14.5 mg, or 17.2 mg once daily) after at least 30 days on the current dosage, based on treatment response and tolerability.
  • The maximum dosage of Foundayo is 17.2 mg once daily.

Take this medicine orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole, without breaking, crushing, or chewing. Do not take more than one tablet per day.

If a dose is missed, instruct patients to take the dose as soon as possible. Patients should not double the next dose. If 7 or more consecutive doses are missed, restart dosage escalation at a lower dosage to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Warning & Precautions

  • As per some studies, treatment with Foundayo may increase the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown if this risk applies to humans. Do not use in patients with a personal or known family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 syndrome.
  • Acute pancreatitis may occur in patients using this medicine. Monitor for severe abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, with or without vomiting. Stop treatment promptly in case pancreatitis is suspected and get immediate medical evaluation and care.
  • Treatment with this drug may cause life-threatening gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. These reactions may lead to dehydration. Patients should be monitored closely, especially during dose escalation, and advised to maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment.
  • Serious vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration from this treatment may cause acute kidney injury. Monitor kidney function in those at risk, especially those with existing kidney issues. Encourage adequate hydration and adjust or stop treatment if kidney function worsens significantly.
  • When used with insulin or insulin secretagogues, this medicine may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels regularly and consider dose adjustments of concomitant antidiabetic medications. Educate patients on recognizing symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and confusion for early management.
  • Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis and angioedema, have been reported with similar medications. If symptoms such as swelling, rash, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue Foundayo immediately and seek medical attention. Patients with prior hypersensitivity to similar drugs should use caution.
  • Treatment with Foundayo may increase the risk of gallbladder-related events such as cholelithiasis or cholecystitis. Monitor patients for symptoms like upper abdominal pain, fever, or jaundice. Appropriate clinical evaluation and treatment should be initiated if gallbladder disease is suspected during therapy.
  • There are limited findings on the use of Foundayo during pregnancy. It may pose risks to the fetus based on certain studies. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk. Consult a clinician before initiating or stopping therapy during pregnancy.
