Vyxeos (Daunorubicin and Cytarabine Liposome) Injection

Vyxeos, from Jazz Pharmaceuticals, is a fixed-ratio liposomal combination of daunorubicin and cytarabine indicated for adults and pediatric patients 1 year and older with newly diagnosed therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC).

Vyxeos co-encapsulates daunorubicin and cytarabine in a liposome at a fixed 1:5 molar ratio shown to be synergistic in these high-risk AML subtypes, allowing more sustained tumor-cell exposure to both drugs than administering them separately.

• Severe bleeding and prolonged cytopenias (low blood counts) are common and require close monitoring.
• Cardiotoxicity risk from the anthracycline component — cardiac function should be monitored.
• Severe hypersensitivity/infusion reactions can occur.
• Not interchangeable with other daunorubicin- or cytarabine-containing products due to its unique liposomal formulation.
• Common side effects: hemorrhage, febrile neutropenia, rash, edema, nausea, fatigue, diarrhea.
