WAINUA (Eplontersen) Injection

WAINUA (eplontersen), from AstraZeneca and Ionis Pharmaceuticals, is indicated for the treatment of the polyneuropathy of hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis in adults.

Eplontersen is an antisense oligonucleotide that reduces the production of transthyretin (TTR) protein in the liver, decreasing the accumulation of amyloid deposits in nerve tissue that cause the progressive nerve damage of hATTR amyloidosis.

• Reduced vitamin A levels — vitamin A supplementation at the recommended daily allowance is advised during treatment; monitor for visual symptoms.
• Injection-site reactions may occur.
• Risk of bleeding has been noted with related antisense drugs; monitor platelet counts periodically.
• Renal function should be monitored during treatment.
