ZINPLAVA (Bezlotoxumab) Injection

ZINPLAVA (bezlotoxumab), from Merck, is indicated to reduce the recurrence of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) in patients 1 year of age and older who are receiving antibacterial drug treatment for CDI and are at high risk for recurrence.

Bezlotoxumab is a monoclonal antibody that binds to and neutralizes C. difficile toxin B, preventing the toxin from damaging intestinal cells and reducing the likelihood of CDI recurrence — it does not treat the active infection itself, which requires antibacterial therapy.

• Heart failure has been reported more frequently in ZINPLAVA-treated patients with a history of congestive heart failure; use with caution in this population.
• Infusion-related reactions may occur; monitor patients during administration.
• ZINPLAVA is not a treatment for CDI itself and must be given alongside standard-of-care antibacterial therapy.
• Common side effects include nausea, fever, and headache.
