Xermelo (telotristat ethyl) is a tryptophan hydroxylase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of carcinoid syndrome diarrhea in combination with somatostatin analog (SSA) therapy in adults inadequately controlled by SSA therapy.
Recommended Dosage:
The recommended dosage of Xermelo in adult patients is 250 mg three times daily for patients whose diarrhea is inadequately controlled by SSA therapy. Take this therapeutic drug with food. When short-acting octreotide is used in combination with Xermelo, administer short-acting octreotide at least 30 minutes after administering Xermelo.
If any dose is missed, take the next scheduled dose at the regular time. It is not recommended to take 2 doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose. Discontinue treatment if severe constipation develops.
- Treatment with Xermelo 250 mg may worsen constipation in some patients. Monitor bowel habits regularly throughout therapy. Increase fluids, fiber, and physical activity if advised by your healthcare provider. Report serious abdominal pain, persistent constipation, or bowel obstruction symptoms immediately for medical evaluation and treatment.
- Serious allergic reactions to telotristat may develop rarely. Stop treatment and seek immediate help in case rash, dizziness, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulty occurs. Inform healthcare professionals about prior drug allergies before starting treatment to reduce risk and ensure safe use.
