IXEMPRA Kit (Ixabepilone)

IXEMPRA Kit (ixabepilone), from R-Pharm US, is indicated in combination with capecitabine for the treatment of metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer resistant to treatment with an anthracycline and a taxane, or resistant to a taxane and for whom further anthracycline therapy is contraindicated. It is also indicated as monotherapy in patients resistant or refractory to anthracyclines, taxanes, and capecitabine.

Ixabepilone is an epothilone B analog that stabilizes microtubules, disrupting normal microtubule dynamics required for cell division, which arrests tumor cells in mitosis and leads to cell death, including in tumors resistant to taxanes.

• Peripheral neuropathy is common and can be severe; dose adjustment or discontinuation may be needed.
• Myelosuppression (low blood counts), including neutropenia, requires regular monitoring.
• Hypersensitivity reactions can occur; premedication with antihistamines and corticosteroids is typically required.
• Should not be used in combination with capecitabine in patients with hepatic impairment above specified limits.
• Common side effects: peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, myalgia/arthralgia, alopecia, nausea.
