Rituximab-abbs (marketed as Truxima), from Celltrion/Teva, is a biosimilar to Rituxan indicated for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), and other CD20-positive B-cell conditions.

Rituximab-abbs is a monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 antigen found on the surface of B-lymphocytes, triggering the immune system to destroy these cells — depleting the malignant or autoimmune-driving B-cells responsible for these conditions.

• Boxed warnings: severe infusion reactions, severe mucocutaneous reactions, hepatitis B virus reactivation, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).
• Requires premedication and close monitoring during infusion, particularly the first dose.
• Tumor lysis syndrome may occur in patients with high tumor burden.
• Screen for hepatitis B before initiating treatment.
