Lumisight (Pegulicianine)
- Medicine Name: Lumisight
- API: Pegulicianine
- Dosage Form & Strength: For injection: lyophilized powder in a single-dose vial delivering 39 mg of pegulicianine after reconstitution.
- Manufactured By: Lumicell, Inc.
Lumisight (pegulicianine) is an optical imaging agent used for fluorescence imaging in adult patients with breast cancer as an adjunct for the intraoperative detection of cancerous tissue within the resection cavity after the primary specimen has been removed during lumpectomy surgery.
Recommended Dosage: The recommended dosage of Lumisight is 1 mg/kg of actual body weight, administered by intravenous injection over 3 minutes. This should be given 2 hours to 6 hours before imaging. Ensure accurate body weight measurement for proper dosing. Administering the dose within this time frame optimizes imaging results. Follow all standard procedures for intravenous injections, and monitor the patient for any adverse reactions. Proper preparation and timing are essential for achieving the best imaging outcomes with Lumisight.
- Lumisight can cause severe hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis. Monitor patients for signs of allergic reactions during and after administration. Immediate medical intervention is necessary if symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing occur.
- False positive and false negative results may occur during the use of Pegulicianine to detect residual cancer. The unavailability of signal in the lumpectomy cavity does not rule out the existence of residual cancer. Additionally, a positive signal has been seen in some non-cancerous tissue.
- Blue dyes used for sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping procedures interfere with Lumisight imaging. Avoid the use of dyes used for SLN mapping procedures before imaging the lumpectomy cavity in patients receiving this medicinal product.
- Concomitant use of Lumisight with other therapeutic drugs may increase the risk of side effects or alter the effectiveness of either drug. Thoroughly review the patient’s medical history to detect probable interactions. Adjust dosing or substitute medicines as required to minimize risks.
- There is limited information on the use of Lumisight in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Pegulicianine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised when administering Lumisight to breastfeeding women, and consideration should be given to discontinuing breastfeeding or the drug, based on the drug’s importance to the mother.
