• Do not use Accrufer 30 mg capsules in individuals with active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) flare, as there is a probability of increased inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.
• Excessive treatment with iron medicinal products can result in over-iron storage with the chance of iatrogenic hemosiderosis. Avoid administering this medication to those with evidence of iron overload or those receiving an intravenous form of iron. Iron parameters must be assessed prior to starting Accrufer and monitor iron parameters throughout the therapy.
• The accidental excess doses of products that contain iron can be responsible for causing fatal poisoning in children aged under six. Accrufer capsules must be kept out of reach of children. If accidental overdose occurs, call a doctor promptly.
• Concomitant administration of iron products with dimercaprol may be responsible for increasing the probability of nephrotoxicity. The use of Accrufer along with dimercaprol should be avoided.
• The way ferric maltol is not likely to be hazardous to a fetus. In case of untreated iron deficiency (ID) during pregnancy, there is a probability of anemia (low RBCs), premature birth, or low birth weight.
