Sofdra (sofpironium) is an anticholinergic used for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis in adults and pediatric patients aged 9 years and older.
Recommended Dosage: Do not shave armpits for at least 8 hours before applying Sofdra Topical gel and avoid showering at least 30 minutes before application. Apply the medicine to clean, dry skin once daily at bedtime. Use a single pump actuation for each underarm, spreading the entire amount with the supplied applicator. Allow it to dry completely for 5 minutes before dressing and wash hands immediately with soap. Do not shower or wash underarms for at least 8 hours post-application and avoid touching the underarms afterward. Use it topically only, avoiding fire, flame, and smoking during and immediately after application. Do not apply to broken skin or use more than once daily. Avoid contact with the periocular area and do not use it with occlusive dressings.
- Sofdra Topical gel is contraindicated in patients with medical conditions that can be exacerbated by the anticholinergic effect of sofpironium bromide (e.g., severe ulcerative colitis, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, paralytic ileus, unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage, toxic megacolon complicating ulcerative colitis, Sjögren’s syndrome).
- Use Sofpironium Topical gel: 12.45% with caution in individuals with a history or presence of documented urinary retention. Prescribers and respective patients should be alert for signs and symptoms of urinary retention (e.g., difficulty passing urine, distended bladder), especially in those with prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction. Stop use immediately and consult a doctor if any of these signs or symptoms occur.
- In the existence of high ambient temperature, hyperpyrexia, and heat stroke due to decreased sweating can occur with the use of anticholinergic medicines, including Sofpironium. Watch for a generalized lack of sweating when in hot or very warm environmental temperatures and avoid using the medicine if not sweating under these circumstances.
- Cases of transient blurred vision may occur with the use of Sofpironium. If blurred vision occurs, stop use and avoid engaging in activities that require clear vision, such as operating a motor vehicle or other machinery or performing hazardous work, until the symptoms have resolved.
