Vaxneuvance (Pneumococcal 15-valent Conjugate Vaccine) is a vaccine used for active immunization for the prevention of invasive disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, 22F, 23F and 33F in individuals aged 6 weeks and older.
Recommended Dosage: Each dose of Vaxneuvance is 0.5 mL. In children, administer Vaxneuvance as a 4-dose series at 2, 4, 6, and 12 through 15 months of age (and at least 2 months after the third dose). The first dose may be administered as early as six weeks of age. In adults, administer Vaxneuvance as a single dose in adults aged 18 years and older.
- Suitable medical treatment to manage allergic reactions must be promptly available in the event an acute anaphylactic reaction occurs following administration of Vaxneuvance 0.5 mL injection.
- Some individuals with altered immunocompetence, including those with immunosuppressive therapy, may have a decreased immune response to Vaxneuvance (Pneumococcal 15-valent Conjugate Vaccine).
- Apnea after intramuscular vaccination may occur in some infants born prematurely. A judgment about when to administer it to infants born prematurely must be based on consideration of the medical status of an individual infant and the probable benefits and possible risks of vaccination.
- Postpone vaccination in those suffering from acute severe febrile illness or acute infection. The presence of low-grade fever and/or a minor infection should not delay vaccination.
- As with other intramuscular (IM) injections, the vaccine needs to be given with caution to those receiving anticoagulant therapy, or to those with thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder such as hemophilia. Bruising or bleeding may occur after intramuscular administration in these people.
